Massive Melbourne Studio Readies For Next Phase
One of Melbourne’s largest and well-appointed photography and production facilities, Machines Like Men Studios, is pleased to announce the development of further production capabilities, commencing May 2024.
Founded in 2020, Machines Like Men Studios is a large-scale photography and video studio featuring an impressive 21 by 23m wide, 6m high cyclorama.
“The studio was established to cater to large equipment and production set photography and video needs,” said owner Campbell Glikmann-Johnston.
“We started with the shell of a factory-office build and have progressively developed it to arguably be one of Melbourne’s best studios of its kind.”
“The main photography and video studio is well-equipped in its current form, however, we want to further enhance what we can offer,” he continued.
“This includes building a dedicated green-screen presentation studio, further crew and talent accommodation and additional enhancements to the main studio.”
Work kicks off in May with the project anticipated to be complete in the following two months. Importantly, the green screen studio is a new, dedicated space, separate to the main studio, so the build won’t impact the availability for hire and use of this during the works.
“With both the main studio, and the green screen studio, we can cater to a wider range of production hire space requirements and clients,” Campbell commented.
“The extra crew and talent accommodation is something that will add to the function and ease of use of the space, while the green screen studio will be equipped with the latest production technology, including Canon PTZ cameras and control, motion control, LED backdrop for enhanced content in addition to the green screen and a suite of ARRI LED studio lighting.”
Studio overview
The main studio floor space measures 24 x 32m, with 6.1m clearance. The cyclorama measures 21 x 23m wide x 6m high.
Access to the studio and location is a key attribute. Machines Like Men is five minutes from the Robinsons Road Western Hwy entrance in Truganina and is a short 25-minute drive from Melbourne CBD.
Located on a street corner with entry to two sides of the building, the studio can accommodate drive-thru entry/exit via the two 4.5m high and 4m wide bi-fold, sound insulated doors. This provides the benefit of both convenience and privacy for any ‘sensitive’ product or talent.
Ambient sound management is provided via draping and over-head sound insulation for the main studio floor area and draping over the doors.
Ample power supply is available courtesy of two 50 Amp 3-phase sockets, an additional 32 Amp 3-phase socket and many additional hanging and wall-mounted GPOs.
All large equipment or multi-set, large production requirements are catered to, with easy bump-in and bump-out arrangements, great parking and long-shoot day, night, weekend hires.
All-comers welcome
“We've already seen quite a range of different clients with a variety of products take advantage of the production potential of the studio, from multi-set outdoor garden furniture to tractors and buses,” said Campbell.
“With the imminent works and resulting added services and functionality we'll be able to offer, we're looking forward to providing an even more compelling studio hire offer.”
